Our History

June 18, 1961 – First service for Christ Methodist Church held in Piscataway High School with 60 people in attendance.

March 22, 1964 – Groundbreaking conducted for building at 485 Hoes Lane. The site, which adjoins the Piscataway Municipal Building, was acquired from the township for a nominal cost.

March 7, 1965 – Sanctuary, which was designed to seat 110 people, consecrated. Entire facility comprises 6,000 square feet, including sanctuary, educational/meeting rooms and offices.

April 23, 1968 – Methodist Church merges with Evangelical United Brethren Church to form United Methodist Church; Christ Methodist Church becomes Christ United Methodist Church.

Nov. 18, 1984 – Celebration of 20th anniversary of church building and mortgage burning.

Oct. 3, 1993 – Groundbreaking conducted for building expansion at 485 Hoes Lane.

May 21, 1995 – Service of consecration held for new church and adjoining facilities. The new sanctuary seats 250 people. The sanctuary and supporting facilities, including a 3,800-square-feet fellowship hall, add 14,000 square feet to the church complex.

May 22, 2011 – Celebration of 50th anniversary of church and burning of the mortgage for the 1995 church expansion.
